Sustainability, design and valorisation of traditional grapes from Umbria
The Roccafiore winery is a paradise on earth: a property immersed in nature, where biodiversity makes the substantial difference, together with a tradition of precise and sustainable viticulture. And it is precisely for this green approach that it has become the driving force behind every Roccafiore activity. Just think of the fact that this company was among the first in Italy to adopt the choice of photovoltaics, with a system which, in addition to self-production, allows emissions savings of around 90,000 kg of CO2 per year. And that's not all: the 15 hectares of owned vines are flanked by olive groves, arable fields, a botanical garden with medicinal plants and even a breeding of Cinta Senese piglets. A decisive NO to monoculture!
Roccafiore is based in the Todi area, in the province of Perugia, in the heart of Umbria, defined by many as the green lung of Italy. Here the autochthonous varieties are Grechetto, a symbol of Umbrian viticulture which gives rise to elegant white wines with good sapidity, flanked by Sangiovese and Sagrantino for the reds. The winery has been owned by the Baccarelli family since the late 1990s, founded by father Leonardo and today directed with intuition and an innovative spirit by his son Luca. And Luca also believed in the bag in box: a container never used before by the cellar, but which well represents the values of sustainability and respect for the environment that Roccafiore has always pursued.
The Roccafiore company has invested in technology and modernity, giving life to an innovative and design structure that integrates perfectly into the surrounding hilly landscape. In the cellar there are steel vats and amphorae signed Tava, the famous terracottas of Trentino, without forgetting the barrel room, useful for softening the angular tannins of Sagrantino.
