AQUILA DEL TORRE

Aquila del Torre is located in Savorgnano del Torre, in the province of Udine, in the wine production area known throughout the world as Colli Orientali del Friuli. The face and soul of the winery is Michele Ciani, “an agronomist by training and biodynamic winemaker by choice” - as he likes to call himself - who now runs the winery taken over by his father Claudio in 1996. With Michele it was easy to start collaborating and we are now happy to have an exclusive first small batch of Bianco Venezia Giulia IGT in bag-in-box, signed At.

The vineyards owned by Aquila del Torre cover about 18 hectares of land and the vines have the great good fortune of sinking their roots on fertile soils made up of stratifications of marl and sandstone on a clay fabric, the so-called flysch or ponca. This particular matrix of soils gives the wines a natural mineral savory character, the undisputed filrouge of the range of wines Michele wants to offer on the market. The typical grape varieties of the area, to name but a few, are Friulano, Sauvignon and Refosco, which Aquila del Torre interprets from time to time, depending on the climatic trend of the vintage, in order to give life to wines of great character and drinkability.

What Aquila del Torre takes particularly care is preserving the biodiversity present throughout the estate, and to do so it has always relied on organic farming practices, deciding over time to go further and embrace biodynamics, with the distribution of main preparations throughout the year and the practice of green manure. In the winery, fermentations are spontaneous and levels of added sulfites are low.
