This Vin Brulè represents our craziness of the year. We present to you the winter drink par excellence, usually enjoyed in colored cups at the Christmas markets to warm up your hands, in a homely and convivial format.
Vin Brulé in Italy, Mulled Wine in England, Vin Chaud in France, Glögg in Northern Europe. The name changes, but the concept remains the same: hot red wine flavored with spices and sugar. Another similar trait? The period in which it is consumed: especially in Winter, from Advent to Carnival, usually served piping hot directly from pots or thermos during local events or Christmas markets.
HOW, WHEN, WHY?
Preparing your homemade mulled wine has never been easier:
- Pinch the amount of wine you want
- Heat the wine by bringing it to a boil in a saucepan over the stove or in a cup in the microwave
- Aromatize the wine by leaving the sachet with the ingredients to infuse (with the heat off) for at least 15 minutes
- Add sugar or honey (if you like it) and enjoy!
NB: the sachet with the ingredients is reusable, so you can enjoy your mulled wine at different times; keep it in the fridge inside a container!
Pinot Noir is certainly one of the most appreciated grape varieties internationally: Pinot Noir in France, Blauburgunder in Trentino-Alto Adige, simply Pinot Nero in Lombardy. What's your favourite Pinot?
